This motherboard is the ultimate combination of weird components, mixing-and-matching salvaged chipset and socket components alongside BIOS hacks from Russia.

We bought this motherboard — which has no name, aside from “X79-Turbo v1.01” — back in March when visiting Shenzhen’s SEG E-Market (赛格广场) in China. We were never quite sure what to do with it since it didn’t have an obvious manufacturer, but we’ve traced it back to a set of strange components, a big BIOS modding scene. The motherboard is often branded as PlexHD, but ours technically isn’t — though it’s all the same parts, it seems. We also found this LGA2011 “X79” / Q77 motherboard on AliExpress (not an affiliate link): https://geni.us/7xAn
It’s a fun, weird, inexpensive motherboard that was mostly purchased because we were in town (again, in March) and thought it’d be interesting content. We were right. Recommending it for actual use, however, is a different story.
