(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On Monday, October 30, 2017 at approximately 9:00pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as well as Kaministiquia Fire Department, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a three vehicle collision on Highway 102 at the Kaministiquia Bridge.
A west bound pickup truck and a west bound Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) collided and subsequently a secondary collision occurred between the SUV and an east bound mid-size car.
The male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in that vehicle.
The male driver of the SUV was transported to hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead. Five passengers in the SUV were transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
The identification of the two deceased males are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) and officers from the Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
Highway 102 was closed for approximately 7 ½ hours while the investigation was conducted.
The investigation is continuing.
