Lisa Gade reviews the Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, the 2017 mainstream smartphone offerings running iOS. We’ll review the iPhone X in early November. Lisa talks from an iOS person’s standpoint, and from an Android user’s perspective too, rather than rehashing the same old specs-centric review stuff. What’s special enough to make you want one? What are they still lacking?
The iPhone 8 has a 4.7” 1334 x 750 display and the iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5” full HD 1920 x 1080 display. Both are IPS and wide color gamut P3. They run iOS 11 on the new Apple A11 Bionic CPU with Apple GPU and are IP67 water and dust resistant. They have glass backs and support wireless charging and can do quick wired charging. The smartphones have a 7MP front camera and rear 12MP camera with OIS. The 8 Plus has a second rear portrait (telephoto) lens with depth effects and lighting effects. They have a Touch ID fingerprint scanner on the front and are available in 64GB and 256GB capacities. A Lightning to 3.5mm adapter, earbuds, charger and cable are included in the box.
